Katelyn’s Corner: Married to a Catholic Wedding Videographer
This week’s blog is coming from a different perspective - that of my lovely wife, Katelyn. I hope you enjoy:
What is it like being married to a Catholic wedding videographer? Well, let me give you some of our back story.
Right after we got married, William studied law for a semester. It was definitely not God’s plan for him to be a lawyer. What I look back on now as a short semester of our lives felt like a difficult eternity in the moments we were living it. One night, after I had finished cooking dinner and I waited for William to finish his homework (we were eating dinner around 10pm each night), I sat down and outlined a book titled “Married to a Law Student.” I figured I’m not the only Catholic woman married to a law student, waiting to “start our lives,” and suffering and feeling lonely through it all. So, I sat down and wrote as a way of getting through it.
Three years later, I could write a much longer, happier book about being married to a Catholic wedding videographer. However, I won’t, because this coping mechanism of writing my struggles is no longer needed in this season of life, thank you Jesus. While being married to an entrepreneur has its challenges, our family business has been a blessing in many ways.
First, entrepreneurial life has a lot of benefits to living a family-focused life. We get to eat three meals a day together as a family! Not many families can say the same in this busy world.
“My role in the family business entails proofreading blogs, previewing wedding videos, and consulting on quotes and project ideas. I love it!”
Second, as William’s wife, I want to support his dreams and this is it! William has always wanted to be his own boss, since he was a child. Making the necessary sacrifices for him to achieve his, now OUR, dream is a great privilege of mine.
Finally, who doesn’t love watching an elegant, cinematic wedding film? I get to do this frequently AND it supports my family. After each discovery call with a new couple, I always ask William, “what is their story,” and because we are in the Catholic wedding industry, he always has a heartwarming story about how God has brought together two faithful individuals.
Overall, being married to a Catholic wedding videographer is much more suitable to our family’s needs than being married to a law student. My role in the family business entails proofreading blogs, previewing wedding videos, and consulting on quotes and project ideas. I love it! From trying to understand William’s backup hard drive system, to learning about balancing sound and color grading, to hearing how a couple responds to their final film, I love being a part of the most important day of peoples’ lives.
May God bless you and Mary keep you. Choosing Starke Media Productions, means choosing a Catholic, family-focused business. We will be praying for you on your engagement and marriage journey.
This is a sample highlight film. For this couple I also filmed the full mass, full speeches, and gathered interviews with family members and guests.
